Daniele Whitney Wins Carolina Classic Non Pro Futurity and Surpasses $100K in NRHA Lifetime Earnings!!!

Daniele Whitney has lots to celebrate! Daniele showed her 3yr old mare, Gunna Hit The Lights, in the Carolina Fall Classic Non Pro Futurity. Not only did she win the NP L4 and L3, but she also hit a huge milestone . ...Her winnings helped her surpass the $100K in NRHA earnings! This is quite the accomplihment for anyone, but it is extremely impressive that Daniele accomplished all of this while still being a youth! It is also interesting to note that, the 3yr old mare, Gunna Hit The Lights, that Daniele showed was bred and raised by her family and she is out of DA Tucker Light who Daniele won the Limited Non Pro NRHA World Championship on in 2009 when Daniele was only 12!

Katelyn and Chicklet were fierce in the showpen this past weekend as they went on to win the Short Stirrup again on the Sunday.

Dean Brown and Cashin Malibus Chex (owned bt Bob Santagata)

Lost of spectators gathered around the show pen in New Jersey on Saturday October 18th for the High Hopes Farm Open Derby. Everyone was looking for a show and Dean Brown wasn't going to let them down. Dean and Cashin Malibus Chex (bred, raised, and owned by Bob Santagata) were the first competitors in the pen. They captured the audiences attention right away with their powerful run in, stop, and back up. Dean and his horse moved on from there by showing us some electrifying spins and precise circles. They finished it up with three solid stops that showed the power and athletic ability of Cashin Malibus Chex. .Their run earned them a score of 150 which held up for the rest of the night for them to capture the Open L4 Champiopnship title.

Dean's assistant trainer, Kyle Shaw didn't want to be left out of the spotlight, so he stepped things up with Banjos Gotta Gun (owned by Bob Santagata). Alexis Delivorias and Mister Montana Chic - Rookie 1 & 2 Champions
Our Rookie riders were not going to let the others have all the fun in the show pen. Alexis Delivorias and Mister Mointana Chic (aka Monte) were there to win, and that's exactly what they did! The judges definitely liked what they saw from Alexis and Monte as they gave them a score of 146 and the Rookie levels 1 and 2 Championships and Affiliate Rookie levels 1 and 2 Champions! Arlene Bedross has a new partner in the show pen, Pinesails Wimpy. Even though they have recently partnered up, you would have thought they had been together for a long time by watching how well they look together in the show pen. This new duo finished 3rd in the Rookie Level 2. Victoria Carroll and Blonde Lil Charmer decided late in the season to try and qualify for the Rookie Of The Year in OKC and that's exactly what they accomplished. We are looking forward to cheering both Alexis and Victoria on as they battle it out in OKC!

Dean Brown and Smoking Lil Mercedes - Open Level 4 Futurity Champions

Saturday night's spotlight was on the 3 year old futurity class. Dean Brown wasn't going to dissappoint any spectators. He showed Smoking Lil Mercedes, a 3 year old mare owned by Bob Santagata to claim top prize in the Open Level 4 Futurity. "This is my second time showing this mare, and she keeps getting better." explained Dean "I'm looking forward to showing her at the Congress." Tammy Hoefer and Spooks Chic Mya showed off what they had in the show pen with great success. They finished 3rd in the level 2 Open Futurity!

Our youth riders were not going to let all of the adults have all the fun. Daniele Whitney and Pic A Remedy pushed the limits in the pen which won them the Youth 14 - 18. Taylor Hoefer and Electric Freckle had a fantastic show. They were Reserve Champion Affiliate Ltd Non Pro, Reserve Champions in the Affiliate Youth 14 - 18, and 3rd in the ancillary 14 - 18, and her Youth Team won the Team Tournament.

Last but certainly not least was the Green Reiner. Victoria Carroll and Blonde Lil Charmer laid down a beautiful pattern which earned them the Reserve Championship in the Green Reiner 1 and 2.

Brown Wins Gold in Kentucky ... for the Second Year in a Row!

The futurity season has begun, and why not start it all off with a win! That's what Santa Hill Ranch's Head Trainer, Dean Brown did at this year's Darling 888 Ranch Futurity that was held in conjunction with the Clayton-Woosley Hall of Fame Reining in Lexington, KY. Last year Brown won the Darling 888 Futurity with The Kids Gotta Gun (owned by Bob Santagata). This year he decided to show a three year old gelding by the name of Lenas Tommygun (Gunnatrashya X Lenas Tommygirl), who is owned by Bob Santagata. Dean and his horse not only wowed the audience with their maneuvers, but they also wowed the judges enough to earn the top score of 148.5 and the championship! "it's kind of funny, since the horse's sire is Gunatrashya, his barn name is 'Trash'.....but I have to say he is anything but trash to ride." siad Brown. "This horse has a lot of talent and I'm really looking forward to helping him show that talent off in the showpen."

Alexis Delivorias and Mister Montana Chic (aka Monte) have proven to be a competitive team in the showpen. This pair competes in the Rookie Levels 1 and 2. There were 2 Rookie classes held in KY. Alexis and Monte won the Rookie level 1 and were Co-Champions in the Rookie Level 2 on the first day. The second Rookie class was held on Sunday and this duo gave it their all and scored an incredible 73.5 which gave them the Rookie Level 1 Championship and tied them for the Level 2 Championship. This time the parties involved in the tie decided to run it off. Unfortunately Alexis and Monte came in second in the run-off; however, they still managed to take home the overall weekend high-point champion award for both levels of the Rookie!!!

Another one of our Non Pro riders is Daniele Whitney. Daniele and her horse Pic A Remedy (aka Reggie) showed in the always tough Non Pro class. This pair did what they do best and put down an incredible ride which earned them the reserve Championship.

Santa Hill Ranch Wins BIG at the Carolina Classic!

The biggest event of the show is no doubt the Open and ABI Derby. The crowd became quite excited early on in the class, when draw # 5, Dean Brown and Cashin Malibus Chex (aka Denerito) owned by Bob Santagata, entered the pen. This team not only wowed the crowd, but also the judges as their run earned them a score of 151.5! "This was only Denerito's third time in the show pen." explained the rider, Dean Brown. "He's proven to be a real show horse, which makes him a blast to ride in the show pen!"  A number of open riders gave it their all to beat Dean and Denerito's score. It wasn't until draw #27, Dean Brown and Revolution Refined (aka Rev) owned by Bob Santagata, that it happened. The crowd was on the edge of their seats as they watched and cheered for this electrifying ride that scored a 153 to capture the Open Derby Levels 3 and 4 Championship title. "Rev really seems to love it in the show pen." said Dean "He warmed up really well, but he seems to know when he needs to show and really steps it up in the pen." Dean and Mailibus Cashin Chex were the ABI Open and Int Open Champions and the Carolina Classic Open and Int Open Reserve Champions.

Besides all of the success in the Derby, SHR kept the success going in the ancillary classes too. Katelyn Cofell and her mare Whizzin Chiclet had very tough competition in the Short Stirrup class both on Saturday and Sunday. Katelyn managed to set her horse up to execute her maneuvers in a manner that not only avoided any penalties, but also had her plus certain maneuvers. Katelyn and Chiclet scored a 143 on Saturday to capture the win on Saturday, and a 142.5 on Sunday for the Reserve Championship. This is definitely a team to keep an eye on as the year progresses.

Two Horses Back in the NRBC Open L4 & L3 Finals
The NRBC Derby is arguably one of the top NRHA shows of the year. Not only because of the large added money, but also because of the high level of competition it brings to the show pen. This year was no exception. Santa Hill Ranch's head trainer, Dean Brown, managed to get not one but two horses, Pinesales Wimpy and The Kids Gotta Gun, back to the Open Derby level 3 and 4 finals. Being able to get one horse back to the Open level 4 finals is a hard enough feat in itself, but to have two horses back in the levels 3 and 4 finals was quite a coo for both the owner, Bob Santagata and the trainer/rider Dean Brown. Unfortunately not everything went as planned in the finals. Pinesails Wimpy wanted to show off his extremely fast spins rather than his quick footed back-up and they ended up being off pattern. The Kids Gotta Gun showed the judges what he had which resulted in him finishing 17th in the Open Level 4, and 6th in the Open Level 3 adding over $14,500 to his lifetime earnings..

2013 NRHA Futurity and North American Affiliate Finals Was A Success On Many Levels!

The countless hours of training, the mental preparation of both horse and rider, the planning, and the emotions that go into getting ready for NRHA's premier show can't be seen by the spectators in the stands. They will only see what ends up being the end result, and hopefully that is the time that both the horse and rider will peek. There is no one in the industry who works harder than our Head Trainer, Dean Brown. His hard work, talent, dedication and belief in the horses he rides and the people he coaches definitely showed in OKC. Dean made the NRHA Open Level 4 Futurity Finals, finishing 14th on The Kids Got A Gun, beating over 400 other horse and rider teams. This is the same horse that Dean won the Darling 888 Ranch Futurity on in KY earlier in the year. You can bet that many people will be watching this team as they compete in the derbies next year! .

Dean also showed in the North American Affiliate Finals Open with Mister Montana Chic. They added a 6th place finish to their incredible year long show season, which includes finishing in 5th place in the NRHA World standings for the Open -- Top North American horse!

Dean''s assisstant trainer, Amanda Yarbrough, showed Banjos Gotta Gun in her first NRHA Futurity. This pair gave it their all in both go rounds to make it to the Level 1 Open Futurity Finals, where they finished with a Top 10 placing! .

Amanda wasn't there to just show in the Futurity. She too had qualified a horse to compete in the NAAF. She showed A Bingo Chic in the Rookie Profesional. Sixty-five horses later it all came down to a run-off. Amanda and A Bingo Chic walked away as the NAAF Reserve Champions in the Rookie Pro!

One of our Non-Pro customers, Daniele Whitney had allot to celebrate in OKC. Not only did she turn 17 while she was there, but she also captured the NAAF Reserve Champion Novice Horse NP Level I with her horse Pic A Remedy! They also placed 5th in the NAAF NH NP Level II, 5th in the ancillary NH NP Level I, 9th in the ancillary NH NP Level II; and she was also 8th in the ancillary NH NP Level I on Plumdog Millionaire.

Another customer of ours, Leona McAtee made her NRHA NP Futurity debut this year with her horse Pepticcino. This team battled it out against 84 other tough competitors to become a NP Level 1 Futurity Finalist! A Winning Tradition!
Our truck and trailer basically just drove in the laneway at home from the Tulsa show just so we could clean, re-pack it and head back on the road to Springfield, Ohio for The Tradition. The trip proved to be well worth the drive and lack of sleep. The Novice Horse was the first class of the show. Dean Brown showed Whizzin Chiclet to capture the Championship in both the Novice Horse Levels I and II. Later on that day, Dean brought Mister Montana Chic to the show pen for the $2000 added Open. This team put on an incredible performance to capture the Open level 4 title. Dean didn't stop there. He went on to show Pinsails Wimpy the next day in the Open. They not only won the class, but they also had the highest score of the entire show! The video to the right shows their run where they scored an incredible 154!

Dean wasn't the only one who had success at the show. Laura Brown and Whizzin Chiclet were Reserve Champions in the Ltd Non Pro both days with scores of 145.5 and 145 respectively. And in the Non Pro Futurity, Leona McAtee and her mare, Peptoccino had a fabulous ride to capture them the Reserve Championship title in the Non Pro Level 1 Futurity. They also placed 4th in the level 2 NP Futurity and 5th in the level 3 NP Futurity. This was Leona's and Peptoccino's first show together, so we are very excited to see this pair at other futurities throughout the fall.

Dean Brown and The Kids Gotta Gun Win Picture
There was stiff competition this year in Kentucky at the Darling 888 Ranch sponsored Futurity held in conjuction with the Clayton-Woosley Hall of Fame Reining. There was however one horse and rider team who stood out from the rest. That team was Dean Brown and The Kids Gotta Gun, aka "Kid" (stud colt by Spooks Gotta Gun), owned by Robert Santagada. This was Kid's reining debut, and what a debut he had. The precision and control that he demonstated, along with his extremely physical sliding stops earned them a score of 225 and captured them the Open Futurity Championship!

"Kid is a very talented and special horse." said rider, Dean Brown " He showed me today that he likes being a show horse. I can hardly wait till I get to show him again, but that won't be till the Congress in October."

Be sure to keep an eye out for this team at the NRBC!

"I was nervous as all get out the first day, but my mare is so awesome that we still pulled off a 70.5 score." commented Laura, she went on to say "I've been on the other side of the fence cheering for everyone else for so many years that I forgot how hard, but extremely fun it is being the one showing. My mare makes the fun part easy." - Congress Futurity Champions

It was a proud moment for Santa Hill Ranch's owner Bob Santagata, our head trainer Dean Brown, and all of us here at Santa Hill Ranch, as Dean and Stylish Results had a stunning run in the Futurity Finals at the Congress and won the Intermediate Open Division.

Dean had found Stylish Results early on in his 2 year old year. He knew then that the horse had incredible talent and would be a great futurity and derby horse. According to Dean, " Stylish results (AKA einstein) is a incredible athelete. The physical things that he can do without feeling like he is even putting in effort are amazing. Not very often do we get the privelidge to ride such a athelete."

Dean and Einstein scored a 220 in the go-round earlier in the week to qualify for the finals. That was only Einsteins second time in the show pen! Dean and Einstein managed to step it up a bit for the finals where they earned not only a score of 221, but also the Int. Open Futurity Championship! Congratulations to both Dean and Stylish Results on your big win! We will all be sure to watch this duo battle it out in Oklahoma.

NE Affiliate Championship Show

What an amazing weekend! Santa Hill Ranch is very proud of everyone and all of their accomplishments this past weekend at the NE Affiliate Finals/EPRHA Reining Thunder and Santa Hill Futurity show in New Jersey.  Steven Borgia and Cocoas Tycoon started it all off by winning all of the Non-Pro Affilliate divisions and the auxiliary Int.-NP, Ltd-NP, as well as Reserve Champion Non-Pro!  Steven said that he had never won a bronze before...well now he has four!

Erin Duddy had a memorable experience in the Non-Pro class but it was the Youth 14-18 where she took home the hardware for being Co-Champion for both the Affiliate and auxiliary divisions Erin was riding All Chic N Shiny.

Unstoppable is what Dean Brown was this weekend. Dean made sure he captured the Open title by not only winning it on Friday Night Shiner, but he was also Reserve Open Champion with Shiners Whizard. This was the first time in the show pen for most of the 3yr olds showing in the futurity. Dean Brown took 3rd place with HR Jacs Okie Spark.
